Welcome Message to the 5th China-Latin America Business Summit
May, 2011
Commencement of the second decade of the 21st century marks an important moment for China and Latin America. With the latest development worldwide in terms of multi-polarity and economic integration, global economic governance is undergoing fundamental changes and reforms due to science and technology breakthroughs and vigorous collaborations among emerging market countries. Therefore I believe business communities should ride the tide of opportunities brought by the ever increasing economic and trade ties between China and Latin America.
The 5th China-Latin America Business Summit held in Lima, capital city of Perú, November 21-22, 2011, will be jointly organized by CCPIT, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Perú and major business organizations of Perú. Under the theme of “Inclusive Growth: New Chapter for China-Latin America Partnership”, the forthcoming summit will cover a variety of hot topics including economic rebalancing, commodities market fluctuation, regional economic integration, FTA, Brazil’s World Cup and Olympics business opportunities and so on, providing the participants an informed and thorough reading of the current policy trends, offering information and sharing successful experience. We hope that entrepreneurs from both China and Latin America could better use this platform to conduct business negotiations and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, thus making new contributions to the inclusive growth of China and Latin American countries.
As the host country to the 5th China-Latin America Business Summit, Perú happens to be one of the first Latin American countries which established diplomatic relations with China, as well as one of the first in Latin America to sign FTA with China. This year our two countries are also celebrating 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties. The friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation between Chinese and Peruvian peoples along these years indeed epitomizes China-Latin American economic and trade collaboration. There is an old saying in Perú: “Poco a poco se anda lejos” (literally means that little by little, it goes far). In China we have a similar ancient proverb as well : “A journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step”. Once again, I would like to cordially invite you to join us in beautiful Lima. I believe with every single small step taken on either party, China and Latin America will make a leap forward to the inclusive growth.

Mr. Wan Jifei
Chairman
China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT)
