May 16, 2011, the Promotion Conference of the 5th China-Latin America Business Summit was held in Beijing. Mr. Wan Jifei, CCPIT Chairman and representatives from the Department of Latin American and Caribbean Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China as well as CCPIT Beijing Sub-Council and other CCPIT industrial sub-councils including that of electric power, commercial, construction, building materials, supply & marketing and electronic & information attended the conference. Among the distinguished guests there were also H.E. Ambassadors, Charge d'affaires, Commercial Counselors of Peru, Venezuela, Chile, Ecuador, Panama, Colombia, Mexico, Costa Rica, Cuba, Uruguay and Brazil. About 13 media organizations from home and abroad covered this important event, namely CCTV, Xinhua News Agency, CRI, China News Service, Global Times, El Comercio (Peru), la Agencia EFE, etc.

Chairman Wan Jifei briefly reviewed the positive results achieved by the 4th China-Latin America Business Summit and shared information with all the participants on the preparation work for the 5th China-Latin America Business Summit scheduled for the coming November 21-22 in Lima, Peru. Chairman Wan asked for joint efforts and great supports as ever from all Latin American Embassies in China and their governments and business communities back home. He also counted on the active involvement of CCPIT local and industrial sub-councils.

Mr. Harold Forsyth, H.E. Ambassador of Peru, on be half of the host country, expressed his appreciation for CCPIT choosing Peru to accommodate the 5th China-Latin America Business Summit. Peru promises to spare no effort to well organize the Summit with close cooperation among public and private sectors. In spite of the rapid growth of trading volume between China and Latin America in recent years, Ambassador Forsyth said, its total scale still remains relatively limited compared with that between China and other parts of the world, and China-Latin America Business Summit indeed provides a critical window to tap the potentials and deepen bilateral collaborations.

Other diplomats and reporters unanimously confirmed the theme of the 5th China-Latin America Business Summit as “Inclusive Growth: New Chapter for China-Latin America Partnership”, which appropriately addresses the challenges and opportunities faced in economic and trading cooperation between China and Latin American countries. The coming Summit is expected to go into depth on the key issues including the integration of Latin America, the balance of trade between China and Latin America as well as FTA, etc. This time, concrete and particular achievements will be emphasized even more to promote pragmatic cooperation among relevant parties.

At the same local time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru also held a similar promotion conference in Lima. All the preparatory arrangements for the 5th China-Latin America Business Summit thus have been officially launched.
